A New Ending

Hi, I'm sharing another journal page over at Art Journal Journey where Alison's theme this month has been Geometric shapes.
I started this spread before I went to Barcelona, but wasn't happy with it, so it just sat there!  Anyhow, with just 1 day left, I decided to try again.  I quite liked my idea of the graffiti on the wall and Mr UM walking off to find his 'new ending' but that was where it ended.
So I ripped the page out, restamped Mr UM, added my geometric doorway, but this time taking him 'through' the wall without the busyness of  my original page.  Which - warts and all - I'll show!!!  gasp! horror!

As you see, I'm still learning/experimenting,  and now I'm wondering if the new page is too plain?

Thanks for calling in,
Avril xx

  2. I like both versions - there's a simplicity about the first version, with that opening in the wall inviting Mr U to step through. But I also really like the fiery colours of the torn out "first draft" - it's got a great energy about it. I'd be inclined to stick it back in somewhere else in the book and see if it inspires you in a few weeks or months.

  3. I think the ripped out page is super by it's own but the final page fits the spread and it's gorgeous how it complements the great quote!
A wonderful spread Avril and great to see you linking yet another fantastic entry to AJJ - you know I am a big fan of your Art Journaling! Thank you very much! Have a great day! Big hugs,

  6. Well I love both versions Avril. I think we are to critical of our own art.
The journal spread looks fantastic great words and Mr U does look like he is walking through the wall.
I hope you keep the original page and use in sometime in the future, it is a great page and could be the beginning of another super journal spread.

  7. I like both, too, Avril - in fact, I think I love the first one because of the ideas behind it. Its simplicity makes it more striking, if that makes sense? But I also love the second one and I'd be tempted to use both, too. Fab use of Geo shapes!

  9. Mr. Umbrella does look a lot like graffiti art on a brick wall. I think it is perfect. Sometimes we have to do a page we don't like so much to get it right on the next one. But your second page still has potential if you want to work it over. I do like the background a lot. Hope all is well. Hugs-Erika

  17. Wonderful pages with the decorative umbrella man. But I love the bad page most, there is more power in it. But it is my taste.
Have a nice, happy and creative February dear Avril.

  19. I have to say it Avril, I liked the before too, but I love the brick wall stencil anyway. You did a great job on re-jig, it does look fab, and as always you did a great job.xx

  20. Both designs are fabulous! I like how you simplified your original design though, it really draws attention to the quote and Mr.UM on the journal pages 😁. Your colourful version is lively too maybe you could cut the Mr.UM panel out and use it on a card then the remainder as collage pieces for another journal page? I hope you've had a great week and wishing you a happy weekend! J 😊 x

  22. I actually like both of them, Avril. The one you tore out is more busy, but also cheerful with the multitude of colors and patterns. The second version is more calm and stylish.
