Mood Board - The Call of Spring at TioT

It's time for a new challenge at Try it on Tuesday and this fortnight we have a 'The Call of Spring' and there's a Mood Board' created by Valerie to give you some inspiration.  So please use this and tell us what you were inspired by.

I was inspired by the pink blossom, blue sky and white clouds, and I've made a large tag and used a technique that I saw 'somewhere' but not sure where now, or if I've done it right, but I like the background texture.

I started with a layer of embossing paste roughly spread onto the tag, then I inked my stamp with Versamark and stamped into the wet paste, and remembered to wash my stamp straight away.  When it was dry, I sprayed Tumbled Glass and Chipped Sapphire Distress Stains to colour over the paste. When that was dry, I smudged on some Gesso and then splattered some watery gesso.  I've highlighted the edges and some of the raised areas with Aquamarine Treasure Gold.  The flower, a Tim Holtz Flower Garden image, was fussy cut and applied to the tag.  The sentiment, another TH,was stamped and embossed with Gold EP.

The rest of the DT have some fabulous inspirations for you, so please pop over to the main blog, where you will find all the details.

Thanks for calling in,
Avril xx

Live Every Moment

A rummage into the bits box and I came out with some card that had been embossed with a TH embossing folder and the CI stamped and coloured piece.

I distressed the embossed card with Vintage Photo and Frayed Burlap Distress Inks added a Tim Holtz paper doll along with some die cut flowers.  A really quick card - I think I should go rummaging in the box more often!

Have a great day,

It's Springtime!

The new challenge at Fashionable Stamping this month is 'Springtime'  and I don't know about you, but I can't wait for warm sunny days and spring flowers!

I started with a background of  Broken China and Twisted Citron Oxide inks sponged onto the card, spritzed with water and then sprinkled with PaperArtsy  Slime Infusions and Prussian Blue Brushos.
I stamped the PA flowers directly onto the card and coloured the stems with Distress Markers.  The flower heads were also stamped onto watercolour paper coloured and fussy cut.  The sentiment was stamped and embossed with Clear EP.

There's some fabulous inspirational makes from the rest of the DT, so please pop over to the main blog where you will also find  details of our Sponsor,  InkArtDesigns, who is offering one lucky random winner a stamp from the shop.

Mum's the Word

'Mum's the Word'  is the new challenge a Try it on Tuesday for this fortnight, so there's lots of ideas for this one - Mother's Day, quotes for Mothers/Families and I'm sure you can think of a few more.

I've been going through old family photos lately and I've got some lovely photos of my Mum so I thought I'd do something using one, I think she must have been about 18 in this one.

I've used a box frame that I'd had for ages,  I used embossing paste through the TH Flourish stencil and when it was dry I painted with Brushed Pewter Distress paint, and then when that was dry I painted over with Black Soot paint and rubbed that off before it was dry.

I used embossing paste with the TH Rose stencil with paste  when dry, I used Tattered Rose and Antique Linen DIs to colour the backing piece.   I did think about a darker vintage colour but as my Mum never wore dark colours, I kept to that theme.  I reapplied the stencil and coloured the roses with Oxides.  I also stamped the TH Linen Background and some extra rose stencilling with Antique Linen.

I've used bits of ephemera underneath the photo, although some have ended up being hidden, and added a calendar for April, her birthday month.  Lots of flowers were added as my Mum and Dad were very keen gardeners.

The rest of the team have some great inspiration for you, so please pop over to the main blog where you will also find all the challenge details.

Well, I'm pleased to say the snow is disappearing fast, and life is getting back to normal.  It's lovely to see the Snowdrops and Spring bulbs again, all we need now is some sunshine!

Have a great day,
Avril xx

Ancestors

Another page in my Vintage Journal, but this time using one of my own family photos.  I have a lot of photos from my Mum's side of the family and this one is of my Mum's Great Aunt sitting with my Grandfather on her knee (just wish I knew her name).

I started with a gessoed page which I coloured with Antique Linen Oxide ink.  I masked off where the photo would go,  (this was scanned and reduced in size from the original) and used the Gothic stencil and embossing paste.  Some stamping with Frayed Burlap and Antique Linen Distress inks then rubbed over with Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap crayons before adding the photo and some die cut flowers.  The words are cut apart from a TH sentiment.

I'm entering this over at A Vintage Journey for this months 4th Birthday Celebrations challenge is Treasure.

We've had some more snow today, but I think it's a little warmer as the icicles are starting to melt. There are still a lot of minor roads closed due to drifting and this picture (from Facebook) was taken about a mile from where I live, a main road into Durham, closed due to overhanging snow!

I'm staying nice and cosy, thank goodness for the early warnings about the 'Beast from the East' and  a well stocked fridge/freezer!
Stay safe and have a good weekend.
